Character Challenge:
The “Gift” of kindness
Random Acts of Kindness – All WIS students will do "random acts of kindness" for others at home and school. Each student will receive a calendar to record their acts. At the end of the challenge, students will write a summary of how the project affected them and others. The class that turns in the most calendar/summaries will win the character cup.
Quotes from our Kindness Calendars
WIS kids are amazing! The responses on their kindness calendars were overwhelmingly positive. We are so proud of our kind, caring students at Waverly Intermediate School. The overall theme emerging from almost all students was the good feeling they received by doing kind deeds for others, no matter how small. They realized that by giving kindness away, kindness comes back to you. What a great job by our students!! Happy Holidays. Don't forget to be kind to one another!
Here are a few words right from WIS kids' mouths...er...pencils.
"I try to treat others with kindness every day but this was a reminder to make an extra effort. This project made me feel a special kind of happy that is hard to describe." ~Tessa P. 4th Grade
"I'm proud of myself because I know I've been kind and caring. I'm still proud even if I don't win the caring thing and my class is still gonna be proud of them too." ~Olivia G 3rd Grade
"I think people are happier when you show kindness to them. I think kindness should be shown everywhere." ~Miriam A. 4th Grade
"Being kind most of the time makes people kind right back. It made me feel happy because it felt like I was making a difference in the world. I will show gratitude and kindness everywhere I go." ~Dylan S. 4th Grade
"Kindness makes a huge difference even if it's a small act of kindness because every kind thing you do makes maybe a small or maybe a big difference." ~Mary S. 5th Grade
"This experience made me feel good about myself and that I didn't only care about me, me, me. I will continue to show kindness in every way I can. I made some new friends just by showing one random act of kindness. Random acts of kindness can really help your life in a whole new way." Kaleb A. 4th Grade
"I like to help people because it makes me feel good and it makes the person I'm helping feel great." ~Natalie W 3rd Grade
"My most memorable moment was helping my mom and dad put on a puppet show for all the 3 and 4 year olds at our church. They liked the puppet show and had the reaction we were looking for. I think it made a pretty big impact. Why? Because I heard their reactions and thought that their childhood had improved. This experience made me feel like I was a new person. I will continue to show kindness by seeing what I do in another person's point of view." Malcolm W. 3rd Grade
"I feel like one act of kindness is not just one little difference. It is a big difference in my heart." ~Brianna H 4th Grade
"When I delivered candy to my neighbors, one of them said, 'This is what the Christmas spirit is all about!' That exclamatory statement made me feel really special and happy. I will continue to show kindness by looking for more ways to shower kindness on everyone I know." ~Cecilia W. 5th Grade
