Welcome to Waverly Intermediate School's Character page! We are excited to share four different character building activities and service projects that our students will be participating in this year. These will be based on the six pillars of character: Citizenship, Fairness, Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Trustworthiness.
1. Whole-school Assemblies: Several pep-rallies are planned for the entire school to introduce each pillar through music and skits with the help of our own "Character Counts Crew" or "CCC". At these pep-rallies, we will honor students from each classroom that exemplify these traits. The dates for pep-rallies can be found on the school's website as well as under each character trait tab on this webpage.
2. Character Challenges: Each classroom will work together as a team to complete character challenges that match each pillar. Character challenges will be introduced at pep rallies and information will be available under each character trait tab on this webpage. Students will also try to meet classroom goals they set with their teachers for each character challenge.
3. Characters with Character (to tie in with our "Hollywood" theme): During each character focus, different classrooms will create a poster of a movie, scene, character, actor, or hollywood icon that has emulated that character trait. Classroom representatives will share a statement about their poster during the announcements on Friday of their week. Posters will stay on display in the hallways at WIS throughout the year. Pictures will also be posted on each character trait tab on this webpage.
4. Service Projects: We are very excited to continue doing service projects in the community where students will apply the pillars in real world situations.
You can support our character project this year in many ways:
1. Come to the pep-rallies to learn about the character focus each month.
2. Support your child by asking questions and recognize when demonstrate good character at home and in the community.
3. Participate in the service projects. Get involved.
4. Be a role model of good character for your child.
5. Check back at this website for updates, pictures, and information about challenges, projects and ideas.
* We know that reading and writing are only part of a good education. We want our students to become stellar human beings who strive for excellence in their lives. Parents are our partners in education. We look forward to working with you and your child this year.
